Interview with Landscape Photographer Albert Dros

WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO PHOTOGRAPH THE MOST?

I’m Albert Dros, landscape photographer from the Netherlands. I’m a big fan of simply photographing beautiful things. I love to photograph giant landscapes with my wide angle lens, but I also love to photograph the tiniest things with my macro lens. My style is often dreamy. I often see myself in a fairytale world, that I try to portray with my camera.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO PHOTOGRAPHy

I always liked the technology of photography and cameras. But it wasn’t until about 15 years ago that I really got into photography. I was living in Hong Kong at the time and really discovered my passion for photography there. I was extremely inspired by the city, the streets, the people and the landscapes around it. I got addicted. When I moved back to the Netherlands I continued my addiction and never stopped.

WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL FAVORITE PHOTO AND WHY?

I don’t particularly have one. I have some favourites that bring me back to the beautiful moments I experienced: My fist visit to Kyrgyzstan 8 years ago, the homecountry of my wife. Photographing an erupting volcano in Guatemala 9 years ago while camping on a mountain. Finally photographing a perfect lightning strike above a red tulip field after trying it for 10+ years. Getting a perfect aurora above the windmills in the Netherlands. A shot I never imagined I could ever take a few years back.

Which TIP HAS HELPED YOU IMPROVE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY?

I think the most important thing of photography is to really enjoy it. It sounds simple, but this the absolute most important thing.

WHICH CAMERA AND LENS DO YOU USE MOST OFTEN?

Sony A7RV and Sony GM II Trinity set.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT YOUR HAUKLAND JACKET?

The three separate layers. I always use it differently. And I love how I wear the fleece and mid layer all the time in my daily life.

DO YOU HAVE A “PHOTOGRAPHIC DREAM” OR GOALS FOR THE NEXT YEARS?

Simply keep pushing boundaries and photograph spectacular things in nature. My dream is to do this for a very long time!
